  • Christchurch Smog Video
    Years of testing In Christchurch has shown that 90% of the suspended particulate pollution in winter is produced by domestic solid fuel burning (wood and coal fires).  Motor vehicles produce around 3% and industrial burning the remaining 7%.

  • Sustainable Transport Education

    Environment Canterbury currently provides two sustainable transport school education programmes, ‘Beat the Rush’ and ‘From a to b - Billy Bus’. During off peak times, the sustainable transport buses will be used to support these education programmes.

    Beat the rush

    Beat the Rush
    Beat the Rush is a free, interactive programme for Years 5-8 students and teachers. It is facilitated and focuses on alternative energy sources and uses with a specific focus on public transport and other sustainable transport options. The programme includes student and teacher work books, interactive CD ROM, song and bus visit from the sustainable biodiesel bus.

     

    Billy Bus

    From a to b (Billy Bus)
    ‘From a to b (Billy Bus)’ is a free interactive programme for Years 1 – 3 students and teachers. It focuses on sustainable transport options, bus awareness and safety. This facilitated programme includes student and teacher work books, interactive CD ROM, song and bus visits from the sustainable biodiesel bus.


    Special Needs Programme
    Environment Canterbury is currently developing a sustainable transport programme focusing on the specific needs of the special needs community. It will include information on how to use the local Metro system, including Metrocard and Real Time technology. The programme will also build on strategies and skills to ensure effective communication when using public transport. The sustainable transport buses will support this programme.

  • Warm home model
    Environment Canterbury’s warm-home-model promotes home energy efficiency and clean heating. It attracts a lot of attention when on display because of its size and the amount of detail in it. The model is lent to other organisations and retailers for energy efficiency and clean air promotions.
