Civil defence authorities are asking people living in the greater Christchurch area – in particular the eastern and river suburbs of Christchurch and Kaiapoi to check they have plans in place for the evening before it gets dark and cold again after this morning’s devastating earthquake.

Navigation safety bylaw submissions close August 13

Fine for illegal burning
A Christchurch man has been fined a total of $1750 and ordered to pay investigation costs of $800 after pleading guilty to burning plastic and metal waste in June 2009.
