Earthquake alert update: September 05, 2010 – 06.00 am
More Info
Flood Warning (Kaikoura to Hinds)
More Info
Area:
Kaikoura to Hinds
Additional Info:
This was posted at 10 am Sunday the 5th of September. Very heavy north-west rain is predicted along the alpine divide between 3pm today and midnight. The major alpine rivers of Canterbury (Rangitata, Rakaia, Waimakariri, Hurunui + Waiau) will rise very sharply. Compounding the situation is that the stopbanks on the Waimakariri downstream of SH1 have been substantially damaged by the earthquake + people should keep well clear of these. Also the Kaiapoi stopnanks between Williams Street Bridge and the Borough School.
