19 March 2010 - Map Coordinates displaying in IE7/IE8/Firefox

Because of the URL change for the GIS viewer, you may now be finding that map coordinates are no longer displaying in the status bar at the bottom of the internet browser when using Internet Explorer 7 or 8 (for Windows).  The frequently asked questions section of this site contains instructions on how to get the coordinates to display again.  

The frequently asked questions also has a section on changing the settings in Mozilla Firefox to allow the coordinates to be displayed in that browser.

18 March 2010 - Viewer URL Change

As part of an infrastructure change the online map viewer now has a new URL address - instead of starting with www.ecan.govt.nz, the online gis pages now start with arcims.ecan.govt.nz.  People with favourites pointing to the old web address will be automatically redirected to the new address.  However, if you do have a saved favourite, it's probably a good idea to update it with the new address.  

We've also done a little rearranging on this page - the button to enter the GIS is now located under the news area, to encourage you to peruse it and check out any points of interest, messages about changes, or listings of upcoming maintenance, before going onto the GIS. 

12 August 2009 - Feedback - Environment Canterbury Internet Mapping Tools

Environment Canterbury is looking at redeveloping our Internet GIS Tool and are seeking feedback from GIS Mapping users about the following:

• What do you use the GIS site for?
• How do you use it; what functionality do you use regularly?
• What functionality is not available that would be useful, and why?
• What functionality would you consider a "nice to have" and a "must have"?

This version of GIS has been designed for and tested using Microsoft Internet Explorer. While it is viewable in other browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, some features of the application may not function because of browser compatibility issues. Hopefully, some of these browser compatibility problems may be addressed in future revisions.
